Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and commentaries looking at the portrayals of women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit educational site that explores female representations in popular stories of culture - was created and directed by Sarkeesian. In her efforts to break down stereotypes that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and different classes of individuals on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in social thought and politics at York University. She is an extremely well-respected and respected public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality at a early stage of her life. In 2009, while still studying at university she started her Feminist Frequency site. She had a plan to start a web-based series examining the gender roles in video games and was the subject of an online harassment campaign. The incident did not deter her, rather it strengthened her resolve as an activist for women in media. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women in popular culture and the narratives that surround them.
